  1. Fusion Paint On The Marilyn Denis Show!

    February 24, 2015 by michaelpenneystyle

Yesterday I hope you caught my latest segment on CTV’s Marilyn Denis Show where Marilyn and I demonstrated how easy it is use Fusion Furniture Paint.  Yes, you can skip much of the prep (including primer) and with a light scrub up, you’re ready to paint and transform granny’s old junk into pure treasure!

If you did miss the segment, you can watch it here – look to see the dramatic before and after of this tired old piece! And don’t forget Penney & Company carries Fusion!  With Pineapple Street and Penney & Co amalgamating together,  it’s our main Penney & Co location where you’ll find the paint from now on.  So go ahead and get painting!

  3. Breakfast In Bed On The Marilyn Denis Show

    February 9, 2015 by michaelpenneystyle

It was another early morning drive from Oshawa to downtown Toronto to CTV’s Marilyn Denis Show where we chatted all about Valentine’s Day, cute DIY’s and I served her breakfast in bed!  Check out the video and see the beautiful Penney & Co and Sweet Violet items on display!

These decorative pieces are $40 each and come in an array of fresh colours. Also, be sure to inquire about our new ticking bed skirts (in Twin, Queen and Crib)!

  5. Pineapple Street Store Available

    February 3, 2015 by michaelpenneystyle

Not that I want this to come across as a classified ad but I do have a soft spot for 125 Brock Street South in Downtown Whitby.

It’s such a charming little spot with its historic exposed brick and high ceilings.  The little display windows and cute facade.  Ahh!  I’ll be sad to have to move Pineapple Street to the bigger location.  So you see, I’d love to see it go to a good new owner and that is why I’ll post this here.

If you or someone you know is sitting on the fence, wondering about becoming a small business owner or relocating from a home-based business to a real store front, please do consider this spot.  A lot of the work has been done (mostly exposing the brick!) and it wouldn’t take much to make it yours.

Downtown Whitby has so much potential and exciting things are happening!

In the 3 years I’ve had my business I’ve seen a huge change in the area and felt lots of local support from customers who appreciate unique independent shops and want to escape the malls and plazas that make up this town.  If we work together, we will see a big change happen in the area and Historic Downtown Whitby will become all it can be!

If you’re interested in talking numbers or just want to ask some basic questions about how it all works, feel free to drop me a line at michaelpenney8@gmail.com

Go on, make your dream a reality!

  6. Exciting News – We’re Growing!

    February 3, 2015 by michaelpenneystyle

    Well, we’re at it again!

As many of you know, Penney & Co began nearly 3 years ago in a tiny spot on Brock Street in Historic Downtown Whitby.  After 6 months, we’d outgrown our space and moved to Mary Street.  A while later, when our Mary Street location was feeling cramped, we opened Sweet Violet and Pineapple Street back in downtown proper to house our bedding, children’s items and accessories.

Along the way we’ve transformed some local Whitby eyesores into something special.  We’ve been part of a movement that’s changing our Historic Downtown and encouraging people to shop local and independent when possible.

Now, as I said, we’re back at it.

This next chapter in Penney & Company’s history is bound to be the most thrilling yet!  We’re returning to the streets of Historic Downtown Whitby proper, as I always intended.  We’ve finally found a larger space right at the four corners (Brock and Dundas) that actually has parking in the rear!  Work has already begun on the space and soon we’ll be brightening up this old block and hopefully continuing the transformation of our downtown.

In case you didn’t know, Mint Floral has already signed on to transform the former Sinful Inflictions tattoo parlour pictured above.  Yes, with a whole lot of work, sacrifice and community support, we’ll turn this area around!  And we’re also lucky to be near Downtown stalwarts Lafontaine.

The new space may look small from the outside but in fact its quite large.  So large that we have room to fit both Penney & Company and Pineapple Street in one location!  We hope this will be an exciting change for our shoppers and we’re thrilled to be bringing all that Penney & Company has to offer to Downtown Whitby!

We will be moving Pineapple Street from it’s current location at 125 Brock Street South to our new Dundas Street store so that means this space will soon be available.  If you or anyone you know is itching for the chance to join the transformation of Downtown Whitby and is looking for a location, please don’t hesitate to contact me at michaelpenney8@gmail.com for more information.  It’s a large open space with exposed brick and lots of potential.

Here’s to an exciting new chapter for Penney & Company, Pineapple Street and Downtown Whitby!
