1950′s Time Capsule House – Right Here In Toronto!

April 29, 2014 by michaelpenneystyle

I stumbled upon this amazing post via House Beautiful Magazine and was amazed to see that this house is just a stone’s throw from me in Toronto.  The exterior isn’t very impressive at all so it just goes to show you you can’t judge a vintage decorating coffee table book by it’s cover!

Ummm…Betty Draper – I didn’t know you had a second home in Toronto Canada!

Plain Jane Exterior - typical Toronto stuff...

Now THAT'S an entry hall!

Now THAT’S an entry hall! Now if they would just paint the door a muddy version of apple green perhaps?

The Living Room is ultra feminine, but you totally done top to bottom no?

A very 'decorator' floor plan too

I think the kitchen floor was an update later, but hello old stove and phone!

The Dining Room chairs are totally current and I'm kind of into the colour of the carpet!

Seriously? I am fully expecting Don and Betty Draper to have a tryst in this room (in the first season)

The article says that these are real estate photos of a home lovingly cared for by the same owners for 72 years (?!).  Can you imagine?  It just goes to show that what goes around comes around and so many of these decorating hallmarks are coveted today.  You might not want them all together in a time capsule, but I’ll bet there are some people who would!

I think this is the house that went for 1.4 million….agree would not want it all in one house but some great pieces.

  3. Whoa! Really? 72 years! That’s amazing and it’s really on trend with those pastels, but 1.4 million? Guess I won’t be moving back to T.O. anytime soon :)) Also, I thought you lived in Whitby?

As a pre teen during the early sixties I would have loved these interiors which would have been perfect in my dream home, a long low pink bungalow a block away from where I lived. All I can do is chuckle at my young self.

Sorry, not totally loving this decor, although I do like the dining room furniture sans the pink velour upholstery on the chairs.

Only thing missing is the plastic cover on the sofa, although I imagine it was kept on while the children were small!! Those things were not too comfee to sit on…back in the day.
