Introducing Sweet Violet, Bed Bath & Baby

April 11, 2014 by michaelpenneystyle

Now that you’ve seen Pineapple Street inside and out, here’s a tour of Sweet Violet – located directly across the street!  It definitely makes it worth the trip downtown and let me tell you that there are other shops popping and perking up around downtown too.  I think this is the start of something great.

Sweet Violet isn’t (as some people have wondered) just kids and baby items.  Its roughly 1/3 bedding, 1/3 bath items and 1/3 baby.  So even if you don’t have a little one in your life, there’s still more than half the shop to peruse.

Sweet Violet was born out of  frustration with fining beautiful bed linens at reasonable prices in the area.  The department stores are either a snooze fest of beige or loud and brash prints that don’t make for a very elegant bedroom.  I wanted to offer classic and beautiful bedding that can be mixed and matched to create your own signature collection.

There are simple basics – like a great white box pleated bed skirt, sheets and towels – along with specialty items like robin’s egg printed shams and unique vintage-inspired quilts, French soaps and sea sponges.

Then there’s the spool style or Jenny Lind crib!  This is exactly what Sara and I were after for our daughter’s nursery and couldn’t find!  We were able to track down a company who makes new Jenny Lind cribs in classic white and brought them in.  They’re timeless, charming and best of all affordable!  They’re only  $325 which is much less than I see at baby boutiques out there or Restoration Hardware/Pottery Barn and even akin to prices you’ll find at places like Sears.

Sweet Violet and the famous Jenny Lind Crib!

Some people are a little confused about these cribs because they’ve heard they were recalled in Canada.  To be clear, the Jenny Lind crib is a style not a brand.  There are other brands like Da Vinci that have made Jenny Lind style cribs, some with drop-sides, that have been recalled.  The Sweet Violet Jenny Lind crib is not from one of these brands and meets all Canadian safety requirements.  It is not a drop sided crib and is brand-spankin-new (i.e. not an antique death-trap!).

Besides the cribs there are beautiful customizable gliders that are clean lined and elegant (with ottomans available too) or comfy arm chairs to curl up in with a good story book/novel.  We’ve got the cutest stuffed animals around and some hot air balloons and mobiles you won’t find anywhere.

So all in all, Sweet Violet is a pretty magical place and you need to visit soon!

  7. Michael.. I missed this completely somehow – I knew you were renovating one store front, but had no idea it was 2 more stores. I love the names. I love the content. You are brilliantly talented and exhausted, I’m sure – spreading yourself thin, please be mindful of that..

Congratulations on your ‘new’ ventures and no doubt they will all be very successful. I can’t wait to make a ‘day trip’ there.

  11. Wendy says:

Everything looks great. Finding bedding is a frustrating experience, so fabulous idea. Are the white bedside tables vintage or are you able to order them? Curious about price, too. Thanks.

    • michaelpenneystyle says:

Hi Wendy, the white bedside tables are not vintage but they’re out on approval, so they may be sold when we open on Tuesday. If you’d like to confirm feel free to call Penney & Company. Thanks!

      Michael

I am so thrilled to see you carry a Jenny Lind style crib. I have spent the majority of the day searching high and low for one here in Canada that isn’t going to break the bank! Is this is a special order item? So glad to have stumbled upon your site!

    • michaelpenneystyle says:

Hi Tori! No we have a few in stock, so no special order needed! Just come on by the shop and we’ll get you all settled : )

      Michael

  14. Jana says:

    HI Michael,

I looooove the Jenny Lind style crib you guys are carrying. I’m desperately searching for an affordable Jenny Lind style bed for my toddler. Something beautiful that will grow with her – so a double or 3/4 would be great. Does your crib manufacturer happen to make beds? Fingers Crossed.

    Thanks,
    J

    • michaelpenneystyle says:

Hi Jana, unfortunately they don’t : ( But this is definitely something you should be able to find vintage – just search Jenny Lind or spool style beds. I see them around for sure. Or I think I heard the US company Land of Nod makes them? Hope that helps even a little!

      Michael
