Okay so I know I moved back to a small(ish) town and I know I’m not in the middle of things like I used to be, but am I the only one who didn’t realize Domino Magazine was back?! I’d seen (and bought a few) Domino special interest stand-alone issues with mostly recycled stories from the original mag, but I wasn’t aware that the magazine proper was headed back to new stands with Michelle Adams (formerly of Lonny and formerly formerly of Domino) at the helm!
It was just a leisurely Sunday stroll through my local drug store with Violet in tow when I saw it – Domino Magazine with the headline “We‘re back!”. Of course I scooped it up and read it cover-to-cover in a single sitting. I just LOVED Domino magazine for its cheeky young take on decorating and style. And was so sad when it shut down when it seemed like all magazines were on shaky footing. I have to say, today if felt like things were on an upswing for magazines since I saw no end of magazines, including a whole bunch of new ones, on the news stand.
Having read the new Domino through once, I’m happy to say its worth a buy. I don’t love it the way I used to, but I think that’s more about me and where I am in my life and style than about the magazine. This issue feels true to the original if not for some heavy repeats of certain objects and brands. It’s full of fresh interiors, young cheeky nonchalance and lots of pretty product to get the look.
I noticed that this issue said it was the holiday 2013 issue, so who knows how often it’s going to be printed (could probably google this) and it was fairly expensive (almost like a special stand alone issue) but with these issues aside, I’d say I’m happy that magazines are on the up and Domino is back. I may not be into as much pattern on pattern on pattern as I used to be, but I’m glad this particular design voice is back in the mix. Go check it out!
